you get in life what you have the courage to ask for

“You get in life what you have the courage to ask for.” - Oprah

If we never ask, we can’t receive. Watching and learning from the merchants and artisans in Oaxaca, especially here in Santo Domingo square, reminded me of this.

And I know it can be hard to ask for what we need and want. We’re afraid of what other people will think. We’re afraid of the rejection. We’re afraid what the no will mean about us.

Asking for the meeting, the interview, the raise can be super daunting. Asking for the space we need or the connection we crave in this time can be tough too. But here are my few tips for moving past that fear:

1️⃣Notice, how does asking for what you need benefit you? What might open up for you if you get what you’re asking for?

2️⃣Identify, what’s the cost of not asking? Are you risking being burnt out or resentful if you keep doing what you’re doing?

3️⃣Get creative, how can asking be fun? We watched a bracelet vendor crack up a bunch of local students, and then sell quite a few bracelets when another similar vendor made no sales to the same group.

4️⃣Lastly, can we ask and simultaneously not let a potential “no” have so much power over us? A “no” is just a “not right now.“ Remember - It doesn’t impact your worth or value.

Because we don’t have to be smarmy or desperate about asking for what we want and need. Let’s learn from the merchants and artisans on this one.

So - Is there anywhere in your life that you can boost your courage and ask for what you want and need?

Send me an emoji to let me know. Maybe the answer will be “no, gracias” but you’ll never know if you don’t ask.

And if what you need is support on this journey, I’d love to be there for you, friend! I’ve got a just few openings for free coaching calls in March, so let’s chat! Get on my calendar here: https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=17761845&appointmentType=10233279
