picking the job we want for the rest of our lives
"You want me to do what?!"
I feel like that's the reaction we should be giving when we're asked to pick what job we want to do for the rest of our lives at 18 years old. And honestly, that was my reaction the first time I threw axes too.
Like what do you mean, I'm going to have to throw this ax at a wall of wood and hope it sticks?! I'm going to have to choose a major, choose a career trajectory now, and hope that sticks too?
I think it's pretty crazy that we put all kinds of pressure to "know what we want to do with our lives" so young.
And the truth is, there's no right answer. Nothing says we can't pivot and change our mind later. I see every opportunity, every class, every job, as stepping stones. The journey is hardly ever linear, but that's what makes it fun. And maybe a bit overwhelming at first.
I've learned that picking a career is just like ax throwing... you give it your best shot, whether it sticks on the first try or not. And as long as you approach it with a let's-do-this attitude, even if you never hit hit the bulls-eye, you'll still have a blast along the way.
So do you feel like you're chucking the metaphorical ax at the wall and it just won't stick? Do you feel stuck trying to figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life? I've been there, man.
Which is why I created my Career Deep Dive Program to help you figure out what to do next. If you're ready to see some results and get a score up on the board that you're excited about, reach out to me. I've got just a few spots left in this one-on-one program this month!
