the job’s a game

What if you were told you’d have to live in a hotel and you were never allowed to leave?

That’s what happens in “A Gentleman in Moscow”- and I’m not very far into the book so I can’t ruin it for you, don’t worry.

But literally, this duke is told by the Bolsheviks that he has to stay in this hotel or be shot. And instead of keeping his glamorous rooms that he used to live in, he gets moved up to the attic into a tiny space. I kind of picture him trapped in

a building like this.

He’s bored within the first 3 hours. And then he gets an idea.

He decides to see everything as a game.

For example, his tiny living space is just a fabulous stateroom on a cruise ship.

He lets his imagination run wild.

And this got me to thinking. When we’re in a job we don’t like (or doing a task we don’t like) can we make it into a game?

Instead of being bored or frustrated, how can we turn these “low points” into a fun part of our day?

Maybe doing our expense report is an exciting memory matching game.

Or getting all the hair out of the roller of the vacuum is freeing a friend from shackles.

Or entering tons of data is a top secret project that’s crucial for the survival of our favorite animal.

I think I might need some help opening up my imagination. What ideas do you have?
