the company will do what's right for them

I was let go two weeks before my wedding. No joke.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I had just given a huge presentation - I thought I'd nailed it. I'd even gotten good feedback (including a smiley face!) from a higher up who was hard to please. This was a guy who made many people cry on a weekly basis. I still have a screenshot of that email. That's how big it was.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Anddd they had just given me a bridal shower. Literally showered me with gifts. I think the company gave us our fancy vacuum if I remember right.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That was all on a Friday.
On Wednesday, they let a bunch of us go.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
No joke.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And I didn't even get paid for my vacation time. Even though I'd been saving up forever to go on my honeymoon. It was in the contract since I was a remote employee.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They let me go. Even though I felt like I had been killing myself for them, for my projects and my work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Woof right?!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But this taught me -
For the company, it's always business. It's not personal - 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Even if it sucks a$$ for you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This means -𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮. No one truly has your best interest in mind - they can't. They're thinking about the business. That comes first for them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we know this truth, it gives you full permission (and I'd argue responsibility) to 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟. When I learned I was just a body, just a number and they could wipe out a bunch of us in a day, it gave me some freedom.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And I want that freedom for you too. I'm here to help you learn how to look out for yourself, stand up for yourself and ask for - and get what you want.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because you deserve that. Don't let the corporate bullsh*t tell you otherwise.
