how to answer one of the toughest interview questions

what should you say if someone asks you in an interview,

"what are your weaknesses?"

Before I became a coach, I used to try to twist a character flaw into a positive asset...

✨ I'm a perfectionist, but that means I do it right the first time

✨ I can say yes to too many things (I'm a people pleaser), but that means I'm your go-to girl and will get it done no matter what

✨ It's not always easy for me to delegate my work but that's just because I am so good at what I do

and those answers aren't wrong, per se... but instead try this --

𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐠𝐚𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐛 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Are you missing experience in a specific area? Have you never used ____ program before? What will you need to learn in order to be phenomenal in this role?

After highlighting the gap, then show the interviewer how you would fix it.

How would you learn that thing? How could you lean on your other team members? Could you take a course on the topic? What would you do about it?

Instead of talking about a character "flaw" and trying to spin it positively, focus on a gap that you're missing + how you would handle it.

I promise it'll be a much more powerful response (and will feel more genuine too).

And the point of any interview is to just be yourself. So own that you are an amazing fit for this role + that they would be lucky to have you on their team. And instead of focusing on a character flaw, tell them about a gap that you'll need to learn in order to be the most successful.

What's your go-to answer for "what are your weaknesses?" I'd love to hear below!
